We didn’t become passive house experts overnight

Forget years of study and rigorous research. A few hours on Google University is all you need to become an authority on any subject. Vaccines, climate change, the moon landing – you name it, you've cracked the code. Those scientists with their PhDs and decades of experience? Thats how it seems to be these days. Everyone is an instant expert in a matter. But when it comes to passive house, nothing was instant, it was years and years of hard work to become experts.

At Carland Constructions, we don't just talk the talk when it comes to passive houses. We walk the walk. And we've been doing it for years. Our expertise isn't built on theoretical knowledge or a single certification course. It's forged in the fires of real-world passive house projects, each one adding to our experience and deepening our understanding.

Here's a glimpse into our portfolio of completed and ongoing passive house projects:

  • Forrest Certified Passive House, Spotswood: This stunning new build, designed by Altereco Design, achieved an impressive airtightness result of 0.41 ACH50. It showcases our meticulous attention to detail and commitment to achieving the highest standards of passive house performance.

  • Parade Passive House, Ascot Vale: Currently in the certification stage, this projectexemplifies our ability to blend classic Victorian aesthetics with cutting-edge passive house technology.

  • Retrofit Rifle, Williamstown : This is our biggest challenge so far, turning an existing volume built home into a certfied passive house. We are almost finished and on our way to certfication.

  • Champion Passive House, Williamstown: This certified passive house, also designed by Altereco Design, features 140mm external walls and Aluclad windows, demonstrating our commitment to using high-quality materials and construction techniques.

  • Multiple High-Performance Homes: Beyond certified passive houses, we've also completed numerous high-performance homes that incorporate passive house principles, such as the Chatfield High-Performance home in Kingsville and the Rupert High-Performance home in West Footscray.

These projects represent more than just buildings to us.

They're testaments to our dedication to passive house construction and sustainable building. They're proof that we can deliver on our promises, creating homes that are not only energy-efficient but also beautiful, comfortable, and healthy.

What We've Learned Along the Way:

Each project has taught us valuable lessons, from the importance of meticulous airtightness detailing to working with new technoligies like SIPS or cork sprays. We've learned to anticipate challenges, find creative solutions, and constantly refine our approach.

This experience is invaluable.

It allows us to confidently guide our clients through the passive house journey, offering expert advice and ensuring a smooth and successful building process. We know the mistakes to look out for, understand how to doccument a passive house but more importantly work in with clients, passive house architects and other cosultants.
